MARIANA HÄDLER

Mariana comes from the city of Ostrava (located in the north-east of the Czech Republic) who, after studying at high school, went to Prague to study scenography. Already during her studies at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, she devoted herself to designing theatre sets. For the very first immersive production in the Czech Republic, Golem , she and her colleagues were awarded the Josef Balvín Prize. Throughout her carreer, she has designed sets for dozens of theatre productions not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Krakow, Poland and New York. Later, in addition to theatre set design, she also began to create TV commercials. Her first feature piece of work was a detective series directed by Tomáš Mašín and Michal Blaško, Professor T. This was followed by the comedy film Chlap na střídačku directed by Petr Zahrádka. A year later, she created and oversaw the drama series Ochránce for Czech Television from a stage design perspective, directed by Tereza Kopáčová and Tomáš Mašín. The project met with positive feedback from both the audience and the professional public, who awarded it the Czech Lion. (Czech Lion is a prestigious annual filmmaking award). In the following two years, she collaborated mainly with directors Peter Bebjak and Michal Blašek. She was in charge of the film Shadowplay, the audience-successful series Criminal Investigation Cases of the 1st Department and the miniseries Mathematics of Crime. She repeated her collaboration with director Tomáš Mašín while working on the film Silent Secrets, which has been nominated for the Czech Lion. With Slovak director Juraj Janiš she made his short film debut Eyes full of sand. Last year she collaborated on her first feature documentary with director Jiří Sádek. The historical period film Aristokratka ve varu is currently in the cinemas and Mariana has been working on this piece for the last two years. Moreoever, last year she created another miniseries with Peter Bebjak. It is set to be broadcasted on Czech TV later this year. Apart from feature filmmaking, she is also largely involved in developing engaging commercials. She has worked on dozens of commercials with both Czech and foreign creators.
